Simone Rocha is steadily becoming one designer to watch, and you can be sure of that when there were rumours Anna Wintour was going to this show. It is Simone’s first runway show at that. Clearly, Simone Rocha is the daughter of John Rocha - if there is one show exhibiting texture in London it is hers. The show was a playground of textiles, and Simone worked different textiles boldly and fearlessly.
The attitude was laid-back cool, donning a bit of masculine and one which definitely befits the London aura. Silver leather mini-skirts and silver mirror-like jackets have definitely caught the eye of many – but that was not where texture stopped at. Young Rocha paired leather with lace boxy blazers and eminent lapels. The pick of the fabrics was not a mainstream one. With detachable crochet collars, Simone presented gauzy fabrics over tweed (definitely a trend to be – appearing in some of New York’s finest). The dresses, though rather big and less convincing than the mirrored leather jackets, were the kind you would never want to get off you come winter with fluffy woollen yarns layered over PVC. That’s exactly Simone’s kind of quirk and the type which definitely appeals to young London.
The single, vibrant colour was a lime hue, which coloured a fur t-shirt and skirt. The stacked brogues with a Perspex sole were exactly the kind of piece one would assume to become a cult item and Simone Rocha’s signature piece. Not to mention, it injected an added dose of cool to the looks – not that any of the looks needed more of that and cool is the kind of girl Simone wants to dress. Simone has a dreamy influence as projected by the lace dresses, tulle overlays and peplum blouses but what is most prominently apparent in her collection is the influence of the street, and that is perhaps what makes her the quintessential up and coming London designer.
If you are not on board the Rocha wagon – get on board fast because she is about to get big.
